Hand Hygiene: Are you making the right choice?

With COVID-19 at the forefront of everyone’s mind, it is essential that we maintain good hand hygiene to stop the spread.

Months into the COVID crisis we’re still experiencing large numbers and although the case numbers may be starting to ease in places, it still more important than ever to maintain good hygiene to prevent a second wave. Diseases can spread even through contact with surfaces that a sick person has touched.

Thus the strongest barrier that we can create between ourselves and the virus is good hand hygiene.

So how then, can we protect ourselves and those around us?:-

  • Sanitise your hands! When applied thoroughly, both soap and alcohol based sanitisers are effective in killing germs. Soap or sanitiser must be applied and scrubbed for at least 20 seconds and steps to effectively wash your hands are below:

  • If you are sick: Stay at home and stay safe, while keeping others safe. With the testing criteria now expanded, if you have symptoms, get yourself tested. This way, we as a community can help stop the spread. Wear a mask to avoid spreading droplets and cough or sneeze into the cook of your arm.

  • How to choose the right sanitiser? According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), alcohol-based hand sanitisers work best at preventing the proteins of microbes—including bacteria and some viruses—from functioning normally. Hand sanitisers such as Sani-Station gel, with a high alcohol content of 75% are most effective.

Overall, hand sanitisers are a great option for maintaining good hand hygiene between hand washes. Similarly, when you have limited access to soap and water, a handy Sani-Station can help be the barrier between your health and the virus.
